In city again, June 12th, 2004

Mechelininkatu on oikeastaan aika kaunis puistokatu. Siis puistokatu, jossa puut ovat keskellä, on tyypiltään mnnimeltään esplanadi. Toinen mahdollisuus on bulevardi.

This looks really quite lovely! Helsinki is really quite beautiful city during summer.

Mukulakivet ovat todellakin paholaisen keksintö! Siis ne ovat ihan hyviä kävelyä vasten. Ja autoliikenteelle ne ovat tosiaankin erinomaiset: kulumista ei taida ihmeemmin olla edes talviaikaan ole.

Mutta pyörätuolille tuo on ehdottomasti kaikkein hirvein maastö, mitä voi olla. Siinä ei omilla voimillaan pääse juurikaan eteenpäin. Ja toisen työntäessä saa oikein hyvän kuvan siitä, miltä tehosekoittimen sisällä tuntuu.

I really hate these stones. Those dark ones, lighter ones are just quite excellent. Of course these stones have some great benefits. For instance they have really excellent durability.

And those are really quite great for pedestrians. But not for cyclists. And definitely not for wheelchairs.

Anttilassa oli alennusmyynti. Elikkä hommasin kammottavan (viisi kappaletta on aika kammottava määrä) määrän DVD-leffoja.

This is Anttila department store. I purchase most of my DVD-movies from. Because it has rather reasonable prices and really wide selection of films. Today (most of this month, because otherwise this would be real low season (holiday-time in Finland)) it had sales: I purchased 5 films.

Siis perunnatorin laidalla on yleensä joidenkin hedelmien (siis mansikoiden) ja vihannesten (herneitä) myyntiä. Mutta nyt sateinen kesä on tehnyt temput: mitään ei ole.

Kun yleensä junteille on maksettu satovahinkoja, saavatkin heinähatut tänä vuonna katokorvauksia.

Usually this (actually very near) has a very small market-type sales. Just some fruits (mostly strawberries from Finland (I must admit, that we are quite crazy about those)) and vegetables (very delicious sweet peas).

But not this year. The summer has been really bad this far. Lots of rain. That's naturally bad thing. But it makes ground very soft.

Minulla on lääkärintarkastus huomenna. Ja siinä on luvassa melkoista odottelua. Olenkin varustautunut oikein hyvin joillain kivoilla kirjoilla.

Otan pari sinne mukaani. Varmaankin ainakin Feynmanin QED. Ja sitten jokin toinen.

I had rather long doctors appointment: lab tests, long wait, and finally the real thing.

I purchased some books for that wait. The QED by Richard Feynman was good.

Invataksi oli kolmensepänukion laidalla.

My cab was just there. This is really the very center of Helsinki. For instance the Stockmann department store is just right from this picture.

And my typical bookstore is to left.

This statue is "Three Smiths" by Felix Nylund in year 1932.

Takaisin Länsiväylää myöten. Nythän pääosa Espoon asutuksesta on keskittynyt sen varrewlle.

This highway is called: "Länsiväylä". It's located at southern parts of Espoo.

Just look other way.
