Xmas Eve 2002

Jouluaatto on se tärkeä päivä Suomessa. Kaikki tapahtuu vanhempieni asunnossa Uusmäessä. Minä itse tulen jo illalla takaisin. Kun kissoja ei kuulemma voi ottaa mukaan!

Christmas Eve (December 24th) is our important day. All kids are really heavily indoctrinated about it. All four TV-networks (plus Swedish-speaking part) do it.

I'm in my parents place at Uusmäki. But only this evening: my cats are here!

Anna-sisareni oli tehnyt tällaisia hienoja kransseja valtavan valtaisan määrän.

My sister had done Christmas-decorations like this.

Osa lahjoista on jo kuusen alla.

There were readily some presents under the Christmas-tree. But not all, no way!!

Paulin ilme kuvaa kyllä aikamoisen osuvasti, kuinka hän haluaisi hypätä kaiken turhan ja tarpeettoman yli ja siirtä olennaiseen: lahjojen saamiseen.

One can see the expression on Pauli's face: let's get all presents now. And that's that! Because getting presents is the only important and significant thing in Christmas.

Kyllä Tuulikin...

Tuuli had same ideas, too. But she can conceal them!

Periaatteessahan lahjapaketteja ei saisi iuhmeemmin tutkia etukäteen. Mutta tämä on teoriaa. Käytännössä Tuulilla ja Paulilla oli jo aika aikaisessa vaiheessa selvää...

In principle, presents should be just there. But that's just principle. Reality in totally different thing...

Tenavilla ei ollut oikein intoa syömiseen!

Kids weren't very eager to eat. That Security System of Santa Claus (SSSC) had done that.

Mätileipä! Eipä tuo taida olla mitenkään kauhean traditionaalinen jouluruoka. Mutta se on tosihyvää!

That orange thing on the toast is roe from rainbow trout. On the roe is chopped raw onions and sour cream (quite special kind of that, very thick). That sandwich is really extremely delicious. I had once a possibility to compare that with real caviar. And this was better, much better. And both kids likes that!

Eikä Tuulikaan ollut yhtään aurinkoisempi pääruoan aikaan.

Tuuli wasn't very eager, either!

Ja sitten tulikin pukki! Eikä isäni nähnyt nytkään häntä. Joku talonyhtiuön miesten yhteissauna tai jotain sinnepäin.

Silloin molemmat tenavat ryntäsivät äkkiä piiloon. Mahdollisimman hyvään! Nyt oli vuorossa totuuden hetki!

Then came Santa. And my father didn't see him! Some kind of sauna-session or something like that.

Both kids charged away. Because Now it would be the crucial moment. Were they good or (good, forbid) bad?

Natiaiset pantiin istumaan pukin syliin. Siitä on videonpätkäkin (6 538 086 tavua).

Then kids to the lap of Santa. And some Christmas carol. I have a video of that, too (6 538 086 bytes).

Sitten pukki pääseekin oleellisimpaan tehtäväänsä: lahjojen jakoon. Siitäkin on video, jota ei varsinaisesti ole pilattu pienuudella (10 812 738 tavua).

Now is the real use for Santa: giving presents. I have huge video of it, too (10 812 738 bytes).

Sitten pukin käynnin jälkeen onkin aika lakkajätskille!

Okay, now all presents were given. Time for traditional dessert: ice-cream, whipped cream, and cloudberries.

Tässä on lakkalikööristä tehty fruktoosilla makeutettu versio.

This liquor is made from cloudberries. And then it is sweetened with fructose. So, it is suitable for diabetics!

Tuon pelin olin antanut Tuulille. Mutta kyllä se näytti melkeinpä enemmän kiinnostavan Paulia!

I gave this game to Tuuli. It has very simple rules, so it's very suitable for young kid. There's actually no winner, but loser is! But Pauli seems to be more interested in it!

Aivan uskomaton lahja: viivakoodeja lukeva skanneri. Kyllä minusta ne kaupan EAN-koodit ovat uskomattoman tylsä juttu. Mutta riittävällä mainonnalla saadaan noinkin tylsä asia vaikuttamaan kiinnostavalta.

Kids were marketed with bar-code-reader. It contained some kind of game. You get better and better with more codes.

Tuuli sai tuollaisen isosilmäisen barbin. Ja myöskin tämän päälläänolevan mekon.

Tuuli got this huge-eyed doll. Then lips of the doll can glow brightly red when she utters a sentence!

Tuuli got this very nice dress, too. Here's the original one.

Ja sittenpä olikin ihan järkevää lähteä.

Then it was just good time to get home.

Tuuli and Pauli wanted to play with their new toys. They went to sleep at really lately last night (nervousness, You know). So preferably at rather early time.

My blood-sugar was really sky-high (okay, I would be really surprised, if it would be only high...). But some compensations (not too much) fix the thing easily.

And then I had cats there.
